Whenever I find myself in said bind, I hop on the internet and start digging for vintage relics that suit my taste. And I can say I always find what I am looking for. One of my scores was this vintage Burberry for Bloomingdale's trench. It was in great condition, the fabric is sturdy, and after a few nips and tucks it will fit me like a glove.
